Spratly & Paracel Islands (1877-c.1932) South China Sea

Spratly & Paracel Islands (Claimed in 1877)

Discovered and surveyed by the British in the early 19th Century, a claim to the islands was made from 1877, but this was dropped by the 1930's.
France, Germany, Vietnam, China, The Philipines, Brunei and Malaysia have all claimed the island in the last 100 years and the area is now a possible trigger point for a major war.
